Jill Hurley, Division of Human Factors, will be participating in a virtual meeting of the ASTM F08.27 subcommittee on hydrogel ball projectiles and warnings on 5/1/2024 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM This meeting was requested by ASTM and will discuss the draft proposed standard for hydrogel launcher warnings. Subject of Closed Meeting: Briefing Matters.Date of Closed Meeting: May 1, 2024; 10:00 am Record of Commission Vote: On April 26, 2024, the Commission voted unanimously (5-0) to close the meeting. Commission’s Explanation of Closing: This meeting may be properly closed under Exemptions 3, 4, 7 and 9; 16 CFR § 1013.4(b)(3), (4), (7), and (9). This meeting will involve discussion of the following: (1) matters specifically exempted from disclosure by statute (other than 5 U.S.C. 552) (Exemption 3); (2) trade secrets and commercial or financial information obtained from a person and privileged or confidential (Exemption 4); (3) investigatory records to the extent that the production of such records or information would (a) interfere with enforcement proceedings and (b) disclose investigative techniques and procedures (Exemption 7); and (4) information the premature disclosure of which is likely to frustrate implementation of a proposed agency action (Exemption 9). In deciding to close the meeting, the Commission has determined that, on balance, considering the relative advantages and disadvantages to the public of conducting the meeting in open or closed session, the public interest would best be served by closing the meeting based on the Exemptions identified. Zachary Foster, Division of Human Factors, and other CPSC staff will be participating in a virtual (Webex) meeting with the ASTM Infant Bath Tubs Stability Task Group on 4/30/2024 from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm ET. Scott Ayers of the Directorate for Engineering Sciences will participate in a virtual meeting with a CANENA working group that is reviewing comments to the most recent proposed changes to UL/CSA 60335-2-40 standard for HVAC systems. The standard includes requirements for flammable refrigerants. The group is also expected to discuss Reese's law as it pertains to these products. Susan Bathalon and other staff are participating in a conference call with ASTM to discuss the ASTM F2666 Standard Specification for Aboveground Portable Pools for Residential Use. Staff will be participating in the task group conference call to discuss the renewal of the standard publication and the next steps in aboveground pool safety. The meeting is scheduled for April 30, 2024 at 1:00pm to 2:00 PM EST. This conference call with participation registration was requested by ASTM. Arthur Lee will be chairing a working group for electric fans. The working group will develop a proposal for UL 1004 Rotating Electric Machines to incorporate the UL 507 performance changes for motors used in unattended fans.
